Lauren Schelfhaudt
Program Coordinator

Originally from Boston, Lauren started dancing at the age of 15 studying and competing in International Latin and Standard.  Wanting to take her dancing to the next level she moved to London, England in 2002 to train at the famous studio of Sammy Stopford and Barbara McColl. When she graduated from Merrimack College, she moved to New York and trained under the world famous Vibeke Toft and Allan Tornsberg.  Lauren turned professional in 2006 winning numerous regional titles in International Latin.  Taking a break from competing in 2011 she focused on teaching youth, helping juniors become Blackpool finalists.  In 2012 Lauren decided to start competing in American Rhythm.  She and her partner became the 2014 United States Professional Mambo Champions and the 2014 World Professional Salsa Champions.

Robert Arvidsson

Robert Arvidsson grew up in Sweden and began dancing at age 8. He started competing in International Latin and Ballroom at age 12, coached by former World Champion Knut Saeborg. From 2000-2011 Robert and his partners have been among the top couples in various Swedish National Competitions, in the International Latin division. In 2004 he and his former dance partner, Maria Nilsson were Sweden's number 1 ranked couple in International Latin and represented Sweden at World Cups in Vienna and Shanghai. Robert was an instructor at Knut Saeborg’s dance studio for more than twelve years before moving to New York to join the talented staff of Paul Pellicoro’s DanceSport. Among his other world-renowned coaches are Carol McRaild, Barbara McColl, Tone Nyhagen, and Paul Pellicoro. While Latin was his focus for a time, Robert has studied and loves all styles of dancing. He continues to work on his own dancing through professional competitions and always looks forward to sharing his knowledge and passion with his students. Whether dancing with his students in competitions, showcases, or simply maneuvering around the dance floor with style, he is driven to make sure their dance goals are met.

 Adam Katona

Adam started training as a ballroom dancer at the age of 9. By the time he was 14, he had won the Hungarian National Championships in the Latin American dances. In 2008, Adam represented Hungary in the World Youth Championships and the European Youth Championships. In 2011, Adam moved to the United States and made New York his new home. Adam specializes in all International Latin, Standard and American dances. DanceSport is proud to welcome Adam Katona to our illustrious instructor roster.

Jana Petrova Sapir

Jana established herself as one of the top International Standard Ballroom performers in the world, winning national Junior & Youth 10 dance championships in her native Russia and the United States. In 2008, with her former partner Erminio Stefano she placed in the top 13 couples at the prestigious Blackpool dance festival in the UK. She is a regular guest artist on “Dancing With the Stars” and recently won the championship on the Internationally televised “Bailando Por un Sueno”, Mexico’s Dancing With the Stars.

Bella Gubzheva

Bella has been interested in dance since childhood and started her formal dance education in Russia at 6 years old. She has trained in multiple styles including Flamenco, Modern, Contemporary and Ballroom. Bella graduated from the Art University with a major in ballet and choreography. She also has a master's degree from Gittis University in Moscow in stage choreography. She is well versed in all styles of dance and currently competes in Professional International Latin with DanceSport instructor Adam Katona.

Calendar & Curriculum

Exciting things are happening in Junior Ballroom Dancing at Paul Pellicoro’s DanceSport. Our Spring schedules are out!

4:30pm-5:15pm: Latin (All Ages): Dance the Cha cha cha, Samba, Rumba and Jive! Develop your style, technique, and timing in all these fun Latin dances. Students will learn individual figures in each dance and be able to dance them in partnership.

5:30pm-6:15pm: Ballroom (All Ages): Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Quickstep



4:30pm-5:15pm: American Smooth (ages 7-12): Dance the Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, and Foxtrot while learning how to maneuver your way around the floor, students will learn how to style and execute all of the dances with a partner.

5:30pm-6:15pm: American Rhythm (ages 13-17):  Cha Cha, Rumba, East Coast Swing, Mambo


5:30pm-6:15pm: Swing / Shim-Sham Performance (All Ages): This program is excellent for the "energetic" child, and is proven to be helpful to the child who is rather shy in nature.  Join Milo Saidl to learn the classic shim-sham swing style performance number.  This is a non-partner choreography considered to be the grand-daddy of all swing / tap numbers.  Totally fun and a way to learn some basic swing style in a fun a supportive environment.



1 Course (4 Classes): $85

2 Course (8 Classes): $99
